NORD has been following this integrated approach since the mid-1990s in all efforts to supply drive units with optimized overall efficiency. NORD's energy-efficient AC motors comply with all current standards and will be quickly adapt-able to future standards, such as efficiency classes IE3 (Premium Efficiency) and IE4 (Super Premium Efficiency), thanks to continuous development and enhancement. Since 1981, NORD has been manufacturing all gearboxes ac-cording to the UNICASE principle which ensures, amongst others, especially wear-free and efficient operation because there are no sealing surfaces that could deflect under the effect of torque.

Depending on the gearbox type, users benefit from additional advantages: In helical inline units, for example, the rolling motions were optimized in order to limit losses resulting from mechanical friction to a minimum. By default, worm gears are filled with synthetic high-performance lubricants. The efficient geared motors can be combined with several lines of frequency inverters which feature, amongst others, an automatic magnetization adjustment option. This integrated function allows users to reduce magnetization as required during partial load operation, e.g. in pumps, ventilators and horizontal conveyor belts, thereby preventing unnecessary losses in the motor and considerably reducing power consumption.
